Own a unique piece of art that tracks the tides with our beautifully hand-made and laser engraved tide clock. The raised map area is created using real maps and these tide clocks are ideal for anyone who loves the sea, swimmers, surfers, fishermen, or anyone who would like to add a touch of charm to their home or boat. We use a special tide clock movement to accurately predict high and low tides. Available as a desktop clock (wall hanging option available) or wall clock. Free island-wide delivery or collection from St Clement if preferred.
Dimensions: Desktop = approx 6” in diameter with display stand / Wall = approx 9″ in diameter
Our tide clock indicators do not go round the clock in 12 hours like a typical clock, instead taking 12 hours 25 minutes and 14 seconds. This length of time corresponds to the average time between 2 high tides and 2 low tides during a lunar orbit.
During this time there are many other influences on the tides, including the gravitational pull of the sun, the axis which the earth is revolving on (i.e. the season), wind and storms and the associated air pressure and the simple fact that the Earth is not exactly spherical.
This means that tide clocks while keeping in time with the moons orbit will see some differences over the lunar cycle. Any discrepancy during the lunar cycle will typically be less than 30 minutes and therefore will be unnoticeable and only four or five days each month will have a difference as great as an hour. The clocks may need occasional corrections which ideally should also be completed at high tide time on the day of a full moon, the same goes for when initially setting the tide clock.
